About Me

Hi! I’m a 51 year Christian grandma who is pursuing a lifelong dream of learning how to fly (Achieved my Private Pilot’s Certificate on April 17, 2010).  I’m a mother of four and married to the same wonderful man for 28 years.  Some of my jobs in my lifetime have been cook, waitress, newspaper carrier, retail sales, housekeeper, bookkeeper, city clerk, daycare provider, receptionist, transcriptionist  for the MN Historical Society, car detailer and elementary school teacher.

One of my favorite things to do is travel. As I get older I hope to travel to Europe for the first time and then Australia after that. I love to take pictures, quilt, home renovation, and read when I’m not working at our family business.  I love to see new sights and look at the architecture in the areas we travel.

Someday I would like to go on a short term missionary trip to Alaska and work for the summer.  I would love to help build something at Amundson Educational Center or some other location in Alaska and build some new relationships with those who work there.  I enjoy carpentry work and landscaping as well.

Hi Jeanne, I visited your blog after Wendy wrote about your kind gift to her. How inspiring you are – I look forward to following your adventures.
The flat that we live in here in London overlooks a small dock that looks quite similar to your header pic!

Thanks for stopping by Sunshine. It was fun to send someone an unexpected gift. One of the things I enjoy most about blogging is getting to know people from different parts of the world even if it is only through their writing. The picture in my header was taken in June 2009 when my husband and I traveled to San Franscisco, CA for a belated 25th wedding anniversary. If you want to see my daily view out my window look at my “Up North” post. We live on a small lake in central Minnesota. I would love to look out and see a view like my header each morning but I am blessed to have a beautiful view of my own. Just different. Someday I hope to travel to London and beyond. Right now two girls in college take any extra funds for traveling. Have to settle for dreaming instead.

Hi Jane! I haven’t been blogging long, less than a year but I can’t remember how I happened onto Shady’s blog. I think it was her recipe for some strawberry bread last spring or some quilting post. I found Wendy’s blog when TEStazyk was Freshly Pressed for his post on vacuum cleaners. Sunshine commented on my blog after reading something on Wendy’s blog and I checked out your blog after reading your comment on Sunshine in London’s blog referencing Jeremiah 29:11. One of my favorite verses. Strange….I knew I saw your name somewhere before Sunshine in London’s blog today and tonight when I responded to Shady I saw your name on her blogroll. Small world. There are so many nice people out there. I enjoy reading blogs from different parts of the world, so many perspectives on things and yet very similar in many ways. Blessings, Jeanne

Small world, indeed. I “found” Shady the day her strawberry bread recipe came online…early in my blogging days (just started on Jan 1st of 2010).
Interesting how our “Venn Diagrams” match up. I find that to be the case, though, that among thousands and millions and gajillions of blogs and bloggers…we tend to find a group in which to hang out.
glad to be getting to know you

Bravo for you, learning to fly. I won’t even ride in a airplane! It must be really amazing to fly one. Nice to meet you as suggested by nancy.

Thanks Linda! It has been a blast learning how to fly. It was a lot of work but well worth the thrill of piloting a plane. I’m suffering from a little withdrawal from flying lately. The weather has been so poor lately that I’ve had to cancel two rental times. I hope to go up on Thursday morning in a larger plane than I am used to flying to get checked out in it so I can take more than one passenger with me.

Hi Jeanne, I have just found your blog through Sunshine in London’s. It’s so catching I have been going from post to post… from your coffee to Jake’s learning to walk, from your flying to your reading…there’s still a lot to go through, so I better grab a new cup of coffee…

    Cheers from Brazil!

I like your photos and your blog and am excited to learn that you are a fellow Minnesotan! I’d love to discuss cameras, writing, historical subjects and more with you. I am very new to photography as I have benign tremors and only recently found a camera that can handle my shakiness! It sure has been fun taking pictures! Thanks so much for looking at my blog!

Hi Jeanne, I came across your blog through one of Nancy’s (Spirit Lights the Way), pingbacks, and I’m so glad I clicked on it, because it brought me to your wonderful blog.
If you ever get the chance, (once you get your girls through college lol), you should come visit Australia – I will give you a warm welcome!

I would love to visit Australia some day. Only 2 years until both the girls are finished with college. I think it would be a perfect 30th wedding anniversary trip. If I start saving now perhaps it will become a reality. I have another blog friend who lives in New Zealand that I would also love to visit. I met Nancy this past winter when my husband and I visited Florida for the first time. We had a delightful visit.

Hello Jeanne! I have enjoyed reading this blog and looking at your fab pictures. I love small pretty detail photography like yours, where it is a study on the everyday beauty that is often overlooked. I am also a writer that lives in rural Wisconsin. I am intrigued that we have so many interests in common, except for two notable ones: flying and quilting. I am good at neither! I can spin yarn and crochet just about anything and I love writing also. In fact, my publisher was the one that recommended your blog to me. To top that all off, my name is also, Jeanne!

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I’ve had fun over the past year blogging. I wish I could say that I’ve done a lot of flying since I got my private pilot certificate but life has been extremely busy. Congrats on being published. It is quite an accomplishment. Hopefully this winter there will be more time for my hobbies. Love your name:) I will have to look up your book or books that you wrote. I am an avid reader also if I didn’t put that in my About Me.

Hello Jeanne! I am a 51yo Australian student pilot who wondered if i would find someone like me , crazy enough to learn to fly at this stage of life…and there you are! I just found your blogsite while surfing in preparation for my GFPT test (hopefully achieved next month in time for a “dateflight” with my husband of 30years on our anniversary). I look forward to reading about your flying adventures. 🙂 Now back to the preparation!!

Good for you Christine! I wanted to learn how to fly long before I actually did it but don’t regret learning how even though it took me much longer than I thought it would. I took my husband flying the day after I got my certificate, brave man! He had never even seen me fly once before that time. We haven’t had as much time to fly as I had hoped we would but our daughters are soon finished with college and will also have more money available. Good luck and let me know when you pass your test. I’d love to send congrats your way!

Jeanne, My goodness what you have been through. My mother had an aneurysm at the age of 70, she’s almost 90! God watches out for us, He truly does. He put you in that car to go with your family… amazing. So glad to hear you are doing well. Prayers…Kim

Thank you Kim! God truly does watch out for us. There were so many miracles God had in place before, during and after my aneurysm. Life is good and I am back to work and life in general with no side effects other than being a little tired easier than I used to be but that comes with age too. 🙂
