It Doesn’t Get Much Better

14 Aug

Friday evening my husband and I took our daughter and her son with us to the racetrack. My husband hasn’t raced much this summer but he had his truck ready to go and we went.

When we arrived at the track after an hour and a half drive first thing on our list was to unload the truck and get something to eat.

My grandson’s favorite is a corn dog which I knew they had at the food stand. And yes, that little guy did eat the whole thing although it took him awhile.

After we unloaded the truck we headed over to the pit grandstand to watch a couple of heat races before my husband’s turn to race.  Jack didn’t take his eyes off the track for a minute and was concerned when they had to send a tow truck out to take a car off the track that had spun out.

Jack’s favorite movie is “Cars”.  This was like seeing “Cars” in person. He pointed at everything and talked in his two-year old jibberish about everything he saw and every other word that came out of his mouth was “race car”.

Squeals of delight were heard as the racecars turned corner number four. Our night was cut short by storms rolling in. We ended up running to the truck in pouring rain and driving in torrential rains home. We will head back to the track on Thursday for  “King of the Dirt” night.  Hopefully he will get to see Grandpa race.

No stock car racing? I’ve never been to a dog or horse race.

I myself have NEVER enjoyed car racing – I do like horse racing 9to an eextent) – just has never interested me. I have a brother who loves it – a a matter of fact he used to be a flagger for races at Watkins Glen, NY!

But whether one likes racing or not it doesn’t matter – whatever the activity, if you can do it with an enthusuatic person you love, especially a child – it is a magical time indeed! Great post, and great photos, Janne! Thank you.

i agree with you Paula, whatever the activity, if you enjoy it with an enthusiatic person their love of the activity is bound to rub off. We had a great but brief evening of racing.

We managed to get to the truck before getting too wet but then my daughter had to run back to the grandstand to retrieve his little racecar he forgot on the bleachers. By the time she got back to the truck she was soaked.

We had a blast! It is so fun to watch the world through the eyes of a child especially when they see something for the first time.

King of the dirt describes my grandkids. Wow, that is a wicked looking thunder boomer. Glad the corn dog didn’t get wet.

He had the corn dog polished off before the rain hit. Jack is also King of the Dirt. His mom had him all bathed and in clean pj’s tonight and he headed outside just one more time to help Grandpa and needed to be cleaned up before bed again.

It looks like your grandson is having the time of his life. What a joy to be able to do that for a child. I agree with him on corn dogs. Glad you made it home safely, that sounds like quite a storm.

I was quite a storm. We drove through heavy rains all the way home and had an inch of rain in our area Friday evening. This was Jack’s first trip to the track this summer. We’ve had him there last summer and the summer he was born but nothing I’m sure he’d remember.

Thanks for stopping by. It was a fun but short evening. Probably the perfect amount of time for a two-year old.
